Our Partners
Developing World Connections
The Canadian organization Developing World Connections initiated Open Windows’ community volunteer program many years ago, starting with the construction of houses for some of the neediest families we serve. Since that time, DWC has built more houses and has provided most of our community volunteers, adding eco-stoves to the services it helps us provide. Its “Light Up Guatemala” campaign, usually taking place in the fall, has been responsible for providing hundreds of families in and around San Miguel Dueñas with smoke-free cooking. Power of a Nickel
Power of a Nickel is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reaching the medically needy across the globe. Founded in 2013 by Dr. Stan Grogg and his nurse practitioner wife, Barbara, the team currently makes annual visits to Cuba, Uganda, India, Peru and Vietnam. In 2024 six members of the group came to San Miguel Dueñas and examined 230 people from the town and surrounding communities, providing medicines, eye glasses and referrals based on observation, lab tests and ultra-sound examinations. We look forward to an ongoing partnership with Power of a Nickel to improve the health of our students and our community as a whole. Volunteer Latin America
Volunteer Latin America is the first organization to post volunteer projects on behalf of Open Windows. Its motto, “Volunteering abroad shouldn’t cost the earth” points to both the reasonable costs of the projects it chooses to advertise and the nature of the work those volunteer opportunities involve. You can see all the possibilities they offer for volunteering in Latin America at https://www.volunteerlatinamerica.com.
